MapInfo Discovery

MapInfo® Discovery™ is an extension to MapInfo Professional® that’s ideal for anyone who wants to share their maps within and between departments. Now colleagues, executives and others in your organisation can easily access interactive maps showing the results of your analysis. It’s easy-to-do, requires no programming or Internet skills, and - most importantly - increases the value of your work throughout your organisation.

Install Easily - No Programming Required

Anyone who uses MapInfo Professional can use MapInfo Discovery. You create the maps as before in MapInfo Professional, then MapInfo Discovery helps you create a neatly organised catalogue of your maps and related information. Setting up and maintaining the catalogue is as easy as maintaining files on a Microsoft® Windows® PC. For each map in the catalogue, you provide a title, description and category for your map. MapInfo Discovery automatically creates a thumbnail image that makes it easy to browse and search the catalogue. Any computer on your network, including your own, can house a map catalogue. Managing access and security is easy too. There's no need for a dedicated server, programming skills, web site management skills, or relying on the IT department to do the work for you. Plus, it's easy to modify the catalogue descriptions and delete maps, ensuring your catalogue is always up-to-date and valuable to viewers.

Viewers Have Easy Access

All you do is provide your audience with a link/bookmark (created by Discovery) to your map catalogue. Viewers can browse the catalogue in their web browser and simply click on the map thumbnail or title they want to see. Then they can use popular and intuitive features to get information:

  • Pan to re-centre map
  • Zoom in/out
  • Get data with info tool
  • Turn map layers on/off
  • Send links to other users with a simple click of a button

Works in Tandem with MapInfo Professional

MapInfo Discovery works alongside MapInfo Professional. A typical department with several MapInfo Professional users can share a single copy of MapInfo Discovery because it is licensed for the computer where the catalogue resides. Each user could have the MapInfo Discovery extension installed and publish their map catalogue to a shared server.

Features

Makes Sharing Maps Easy

Maps made in MapInfo Professional and published to Discovery can be seen by anyone. Even non-technical people can click on a link, or open a bookmark to get instant access to your maps.

No Plug-ins Required

Maps are viewed using standard web browsers, like Microsoft Internet Explorer. No special plug-ins are required. Map viewers do not need to install MapInfo Professional or any other application, so maps are essentially instantly and universally accessible to everyone.

Maps are "Live"

Your audience can interact with your maps - pan, zoom, use the Info Tool, and turn on and off layers – you are providing more than just a static "picture."

No Programming or IT Skills Required

Basic PC skills are all you need to install, set up and begin using MapInfo Discovery. If you can use MapInfo Professional, you have all the skills you need to share your maps.

No Special Server or Hardware Needed

Install Discovery on any PC on your network – including your own. You don’t need (though you certainly can use) a dedicated server to use MapInfo Discovery.

Organise Maps Easily, Any Way You Choose

Create your own neatly organised "Catalogue" of maps as easily as you create Folders on a PC. Create a Category, Title and Description for each map in your Catalogue. Discovery creates a thumbnail view for you.

Finding Maps is Easy for Viewers

Map viewers can easily find the maps they’re looking for. They can sort by category, map title, or author with point-and-click ease.

Security by Password

You can make some maps accessible to everyone, and password protect others so only certain individuals can see them.

Note: MapInfo Discovery is priced according to the number of CPU’s in the server on which it is installed, with annual maintenance at 20% of the licence price.
