MapInfo Professional's enhanced ability to access data directly
from multiple data sources enables you to apply the power of location
analysis to your data directly in its original format. You can
open customer data from an Excel file, infrastructure layouts
from CAD files and geographic SDE and GeoDatabase files. Because
no conversion is needed, this saves you time and lets you get
to your analysis quicker. Supported formats and databases include:

On-the-fly data indexing provides you greater usability of remote
data. And extensible data access technology extends the supported
data access formats based on need giving you a rich data access
engine that supports the ability to open virtually any data format.
Lastly, you can save a map window as a geographically encoded image
in GeoTIFF format. This is helpful when you need to exchange information
with other location aware applications.
Time-Based Analytics
Time-based analysis is possible due to a number of additions. The
MapInfo data format now includes new date/time and time attributes.
When accessing data from MS Excel, MS Access and relational database
systems, MapInfo Professional automatically recognizes data fields
that contain time or date/time information and uses the appropriate
data type in the MapInfo table. MapInfo Professional includes functions
to convert both numeric and character string data into time or date/time
values.

Software Copy Protection (Product Activation)
Software Copy Protection has been introduced where product Activation
is required either directly online or by email. Customers may choose
node-locked, concurrent, concurrent with borrowing or Citrix-based
license options. Each release of MapInfo will now be copy protected
using advanced technology from Macrovision Corporation.
Mapping/Data editing
Curved labelling to help produce easy to read street maps. New symbol
sets for civil contingency, emergency/disaster mapping and general
public sector uses. Layout templates with dynamic information provide
numerous capabilities to enhance printed map readability. Print
templates which can include elements that are updated on-the-fly
at print time, such as scale bar, scale text, print date, print
time and user defined prompts.
Database Improvements
New data types added: Date/Time and Time. New functions to convert
data into time data formats. New time based analytical functions
and operators.
Productivity enhancements
Wizard based process for producing professional quality output.
Multiple Hotlink support from a single record. Access MapBasic Help
directly from MapInfo Professional. New preferences for managing

Visualisation and Analytics
The ability to perform on-the-fly raster and grid re-projections
and rotations. Consolidation of the Grid format between Vertical
Mapper and MapInfo Professional so you can use the info tool to
get grid values, generate a grid legend, change colours and ranges
or view in 3D, higher resolution for buffer operation limit to improve
analytical accuracy.
Tools: Universal Translator updated. Google Earth utility
enhanced and now included in Tool Manager.
Datum Enhancements
New and updated Coordinate Systems. JTSK Projection, Bosnia-Herzegovinia
Coordinate Systems added.
