MapInfo Professional® Advanced v17

The world’s most accessible GIS provides the most advanced raster grid analysis solution

MapInfo Pro Advanced provides next generation raster grid visualisation and analysis capabilities. It is an add-on first introduced in MapInfo Pro v15.2. MapInfo Pro Advanced takes advantage of a very powerful new grid data format called Multi-resolution raster, and is a 64-bit only application.
MapInfo Pro Advanced is in essence the long term replacement for previous 3D add-ons, such as Vertical Mapper & Engage 3D.
Discover 3D remains, and Pro Advanced provides the engine for a new 64-bit version of the programme.

MapInfo Professional Advanced

Powerful Raster Grid Analysis

MapInfo Pro Advanced desktop GIS and mapping software enables users to work at continental or even global scales, and easily share analysis across the organisation.

Grid files can be created from multiple files at once to efficiently process, visualise and analyse datasets. Because there's no upper limit on file size, the possibilities are literally endless, and capabilities continue to improve.

Popular Advanced features include the grid calculator for querying and filtering grids, the ability to calculate viewable area from a given point and the cross section tool which calculates the change in value from a grid between a start and end point.

Users can update vector data (points, lines or regions) with information from the grids. For example, given a grid of elevation, update a set of points with the elevation of the point according to the grid cell it's in.

New Tools for v17

Align - match the geometry of one raster with another by using the Align tool to 'snap' them together.

Warp Image - georeference a scanned image.

Polygonise - convert a raster into vector format with polygon features.

Export Image - export a map as a georeferenced raster image for use in other applications.

Sequential Processing - Run operations one after the other instead of all at the same time. Switch between parallel and sequential processing as you need to.

Batch Mode - create preconfigured input parameters to carry out raster processing operations in an automated batch process

The Multi-Resolution Raster (MRR) Data Format

MRR - an innovative new grid format:

  • Support for varying cell sizes within a single grid.
  • Support for multiple variables of data within a single grid. For example, a single grid can contain the elevation, land use/land clutter, slope, aspect and more. This might also be used for holding different values to represent variables at different times.
  • Supports "pyramiding" for display at different scales.
  • Supports multiple compression algorithms.
  • Supports numeric and classified (character based type data such as land use/land clutter data) in the same grid.
  • This new format provides very high performance when visualising grid and raster data. There is virtually no lag on zooming and panning, even with very large grids.
