MapInfo Advanced Level Training - MI3
The advanced course is designed to develop the users knowledge
of MapInfo beyond the simple definition of the commands. The intention
is to aid the student in using MapInfo to develop effective analysis
and reporting techniques through hands-on use of the software. The
course is aimed specifically at users who will be responsible for
the management of a MapInfo installation, and those responsible
for interpreting requirements for operations in order to develop
applications. Delegates are provided with a full training manual
which may be kept for future reference.
Throughout the course we use examples from realistic business cases,
and there is an opportunity at the end of the course for students
to discuss the specifics of their business case with the trainer.
NB The Advanced applications course does not cover the basic tools
and operations required to use MapInfo. Those applicants who are
not yet fully conversant with the location and effect of each of
the MapInfo tools should first attend the MI2 - MapInfo Foundation
Course.
Advanced Applications Course Topics
An Introduction to workspaces - A brief look at workspaces,
and the MapBasic window.
Advanced SQL queries - This part of the course develops
the use of SQL beyond simple find and select statements to sub-queries
including the use of join statements.
Geographic analysis techniques - Basic concepts of spatial
analysis, with consideration to the types of enquiry relevant to
modern business use. This section builds on the use of SQL to include
the geographic operators.
Advanced thematic mapping - Thematic mapping is a powerful
communicator of ideas and concepts behind data. This part of the
course introduces concepts of thematic mapping designed to enhance
the communication of these ideas.
Object Editing - Advanced techniques to aggregate data geographically
and to divide data.
Using DBMS/ODBC to exchange data - Using Windows ODBC allows
powerful links to be created with remote databases. Working with
an Access database, the Database Management System routine and SQL
queries are used to plot data directly into MapInfo.
Using raster and AutoCAD images - MapInfo allows raster
images to be opened, but can also be used to register these geographically
so that they work with vector data. AutoCAD drawings can also be
imported into MapInfo.
